about
This is a song about guilt and fear and all the fun garbage that seems to come with those feelings. They can accumulate to a nothingness, a numbness that just hardens and keeps us from connecting with ourselves and others. Catherine, who sings with me on this tune, is one of my favourite people. She re-awakened my love for music (and Dolly Parton) and I don't think you'd be reading this if it wasn't for her. A note to her outrageous talent - we were hanging out one day, doing some jamming, when we tracked a Dolly tune. I played an early version of Lament for her and asked if she'd sing on it. The vocals you hear on this song were tracked about 10 minutes after I asked her. Amazing
lyrics
sit on an outside carpet
that means designed to get wet
that means I won't feel bad
when I spill my guts all over it
we don't care that we don't feel bad
drink your magic potion
you said it would take me places
so far I haven't left my basement
too afraid to come up for air
